NOTES FOR RIDERS / OWNERS / TRAINERS
FADS SCHOOLING SHOW RULES: There is no FADS Rule Book; each FADS show management group runs their schooling shows with limited FADS-based requirements (they are required to have insurance, use hold harmless forms, require approved safety helmets, etc.). However, the USEF DR (dressage) rules are used as guidance, particularly as they apply to rider attire and equipment (click here for the USEF Dressage Attire & Equipment booklet) and horse equipment (click here for the USEF DR 121 Annex A booklet). (An exception is riding jackets, which are ALWAYS optional at FADS shows.) Show management and schooling show judges apply the rules more or less strictly; therefore, when riding in a FADS schooling show, it is advisable that riders follow the USEF DR rules. If a rider desires an exception to a USEF DR rule, ask show management if the exception would be permitted. Failure to do this could lead to elimination by the judge.
PAYMENT OF RIDE FEES: While FADS shows promote a casual showing environment to benefit both horse and rider, show managers cannot be casual about payment of ride fees. Many of the FADS shows are on the honor system wherein the entrant pays at the show. Some of the shows allow late entries, space permitting, wherein the entrant pays at the show. There is a standard in dressage shows: if a ride is scratched after the closing date, or if the rider is a no show, the entrant must pay the ride fee and there is no refund of the ride fee. Therefore, when an entrant enters a FADS show, the entrant is agreeing to pay the ride fees if the rides are scratched after the closing date or in the case of no-shows. Contact the show secretary/manager to make arrangements to mail the ride fees for scratched rides or no-shows.
SCRATCH NOTIFICATION: It is also common courtesy to notify the show secretary that a ride is scratched, thereby preventing no-shows.
ENTER CORRECT TESTS: When you enter a show, ensure you enter the correct test(s)! Check your FADS Online Entry Form before you submit it. When ride times are posted, ensure the correct test(s) are listed – sometimes the show secretary makes mistakes and sometimes entrants make mistakes. Report such mistakes to the show secretary immediately so corrections can be made, when possible, far before the show. A lot of time and thought go into making a show schedule, which is based on requested tests and other criteria; last minute changes are very difficult. Show day and riding down centerline are not the times to realize the wrong test was scheduled as corrections at those times are very disruptive to the show. If there is an unreported entrant mistake, show management has the right to adhere to the original schedule (ride times and tests) so changes may not be possible, particularly on show day.
DO NOT ENTER BEFORE OPENING DATE: Please do not enter a show before the opening date. Closing dates are estimations; if a show fills before the original closing date, the show will close early. If a show does not fill at the end of the original closing date, the closing date may be extended; however, the original closing date is used for scratches.
EQUINE WELFARE: If any show official (farm owner, show secretary, show manager, etc.) observes horse handling or riding by a rider, trainer, owner, or other person, that the OFFICIAL determines is abusive, the show official has the right to request cessation of the horse handling practice. If the horse handling or riding practice continues, the show official has the right to eliminate the horse/rider pair from the show without refund of ride fees.
SAFETY: If any show official (farm owner, show secretary, show manager, etc.) observes any activity that the OFFICIAL determines is unsafe, the show official has the right to request cessation of the activity. If the unsafe activity continues, the show official has the right to eliminate the horse/rider pair from the show without refund of ride fees.
CHECK YOUR SCORES: BEFORE you depart the show, get out your calculator and check your scores. If you see a discrepancy, discuss it with the show manager / show secretary. Scores posted on the FADS website are FINAL 24 hours after posting. If the results are RESULTS FINAL , score changes are no longer accepted.
