Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI)

A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), sometimes referred to as an animal health certificate, is an official document issued by a licensed veterinarian that certifies the health status of animals being transported, ensuring they are free from contagious diseases.

A CVI serves as a health passport for animals. It is required for various situations, including transporting animals across state lines or international borders, selling livestock, or participating in exhibitions and shows. The primary purpose of the CVI is to ensure that animals are healthy and do not pose a risk of spreading diseases during movement or trade.

Different venues may require a CVI within 30 or 60 days of the event.

As of 18 June 2026, FADS shows do not require a CVI. However, due to the increasing types of equine infectious agents and the increasing frequency of equine infections at shows, this may change in the future.
